$400k for Childcare Center at 2610 Perrysville

The Perry Hilltop Citizens Council learned last month that we have earned a $400,000 grant from the state to fund the transformation of a long-vacant American Legion hall at 2610 Perrysville Ave. into a childcare center.

The funding was secured with the help of Rep. Aerion Abney through the Local Share Account program, which distributes gaming revenue through the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

The project, which we are pursuing in partnership with local entrepreneur LaTeresa Blackwell, is years in the making. We have already gutted the building and remediated the former site of a gas station on the property.

While this grant has reduced the funding gap, this will ultimately be a seven-figure renovation project, so we will remain in the fundraising phase for some time.
