Fineview Citizens Council
Story of Fineview
Perched behind Allegheny General Hospital on Pittsburgh’s Northside, Fineview is home to some of the best views in town! Fineview Citizens Council, a 501(c)3 organization on the Northside of Pittsburgh, seeks to improve the quality of life of all residents through the development of affordable and desirable housing, and redevelopment of vacant and blighted lots through public and private funds; to foster a strong sense of pride and ownership in the community; and to improve the health and well-being of all residents.
Through the Council’s efforts, home values have increased, new residents have been attracted to the neighborhood, and the community continues to receive attention and support for improvement projects. The council also engages residents by holding regularly scheduled community meetings and encouraging residents to become involved in various community initiatives.
“FCC’s mission is to improve the quality of life of all residents through the development of affordable and desirable housing, and redevelopment of vacant and blighted lots through public and private funds; to foster a strong sense of pride and ownership in the community; and to improve the health and well-being of all residents.”
A Shared Future
In 2016, with the redevelopment of Allegheny Dwellings Sandusky Courts displacing several hundred residents, FCC partnered with Perry Hilltop Citizens Council to increase capacity and advocate for the development of housing which was affordable and prevented displacement of existing neighbors. FCC & PHCC continue to work together with shared staff, community planning and fundraising efforts. Together the two separate groups gauge the needs of the community and advocate for the concerns of residents. Both organizations have independent community boards.
